A new limited-edition California Special package will be available for the 2019 Mustang GT fastback coupe and convertibles models. This new design is inspired by the original 1967 Shelby GT Notchback Coupe prototype with unique styling, that came to be known as the California Special. Ford produced a limited number of these models in 1968 along with other iconic Mustangs such as Shelby, Boss and Mach1 special-edition models.
The original California Special Mustangs featured a blacked-out grille, fog lamps and a side racing stripe that ended ahead of a new rear fender scoop. It had a Shelby-inspired spoiler, custom taillamps and twist-lock hood fasteners. Rich exterior colors in deep shades of blue and green turned heads when these original Mustangs passed by. They were impressive looking and were some of the most powerful muscle cars of their time.
New 2019 Mustang GT California Special models will feature the trademark fading stripe that runs from the 5.0 side badge to the rear fender scoop. The trunk lid is adorned with a black and red script California Special badge. This new model continues the traditional blacked-out open grill and will ride on unique five-spoke painted machined wheels. New vintage inspired colors are available for this model including; Velocity Blue, Need for Green and the iconic BULLITT model’s exclusive Dark Highland Green.
Interior treatments include black Miko® suede-trimmed seats with embossed GT/CS insignia and contrast red accent stitching along with custom embroidered GT/CS floor mats. The passenger-side dash is also emblazoned with California Special badging. This new Mustang has a Bang & Olufsen PLAY audio system with 10-channel amplifier and 12 high-performance speakers for exquisite sound quality. The audio system has been specifically tuned for the Mustang’s interior and connects with Ford’s SYNC® 3 system with Apple CarPlay.
The 2019 Ford Mustang GT is powered by a 5.0-liter V8 engine delivering 460 horsepower and 420 lb.-ft. of torque. It uses a 6-speed manual transmission and has an available performance package. A new fully variable active valve performance exhaust system allows drivers to control the exhaust mode and quiet the throaty sound of the powerful engine when necessary. Although most Mustang enthusiasts delight in the deep growl of their engines their neighbors will enjoy the Quiet Start feature.
