Ford’s design and performance teams pooled their resources to build a one-of-a-kind F-22 fighter jet inspired F-150 Raptor. This one-of-a-kind, high performance truck was auctioned off for $300,000 at an event for the Experimental Aircraft Association. The organization encourages young people to explore involvement in flight. Since 2008 Ford has raised more than $3 million for the annual event by building and donating collector’s edition vehicles.
This specialty Ford F-150 Raptor was based on the U.S. Air Force’s Lockheed Martin F-22 fighter jet and shares several of its design details. Red and green position lights in the front of the vehicle, a unique exterior paint design and a titanium grille with a front silhouette of the aircraft, were created to give this truck the appearance of a jet aircraft. Other specialty features include Whipple-intercooled, high-output 3.5-liter twin-turbo EcoBoost engine, a modular off-road 1.3-million candela LED lighting system, DeBerti carbon fiber fender flares, hood and fender vents, stainless-steel cat-back Borla exhaust system with carbon fiber tips and power retracting steps.
“Ford has helped build unmatched pathways for young people to discover the world of flight through its support of our Young Eagles, our youth programs and AirVenture,” said Jack Pelton, CEO and chairman, Experimental Aircraft Association. “With its powerful F-150 Raptor donation inspired by aviation, Ford continues to excite with its specialty vehicles, which reflect the depth of its commitment to the Experimental Aircraft Association, its members and the future of flight.”
