Ford Motor Company has announced that all new 2017 Ford models will have available SYNC3, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Ford is further enhancing their SYNC voice-activated communications system with these popular smartphone integrations. All 2017 model year Ford cars, SUVs, light trucks and electric vehicles will have these available options.

As part of Ford’s efforts to continue to provide convenient, easy to use technologies the new SYNC 3 system features all new hardware and software for faster, intuitive performance and a more conversational voice. With new Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration Ford drivers will be able to easily connect to their smartphones for access to a variety of features. Other convenient apps such as Spotify, Pandora, Ford PASS, AccuWeather and AAA member services have also been added through the SYNC system.

Android Auto Features:

Android Auto was designed to allow drivers to stay focused on the road with minimized distractions. When connected through the Ford SYNC system, Android Auto allows drivers to use their Android device to access smartphone apps and functions such as voice-guided Google Maps, navigation, hands-free calling, texting and voice recognition. Android users will also be able to stream music from Google Play Music through a simple interface and voice controls.

Apple CarPlay Features:

Apple CarPlay offers drivers the convenience of using their iPhone apps seamlessly through Ford’s SYNC system. By connecting the iPhone to the USB port, drivers are able to make calls, access music, send and receive messages and get directions optimized for traffic conditions. The user interface also features hands-free support via Siri voice control or through a convenient touchscreen.

“SYNC 3 is already a major leap forward in terms of functionality, simplicity, and user experience – Ford’s promise that every new model now ships ‘Smartphone-ready’ is huge,” said Jeffrey Hannah, Director of North America for global automotive technology research firm SBD. “Ford is not taking the traditional approach of introducing Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto on a few piecemeal models or as an expensive option on luxury vehicles only. The guesswork for consumers is over – if you buy any 2017 Ford vehicle with SYNC 3, you drive off the lot with both of these innovative technologies ready to go.”
