High Demand for Ford SUVs Increases Production at SUV Plants

Explore the full lineup of Ford SUVs in Dallas, Texas.

In response to strong customer demand for popular Ford SUVs, Ford will shorten its traditional two-week summer shut down in it’s SUV plants in Louisville, Chicago and Oakville, Ontario. The extra week of production time will be used to make 22,000 extra Ford SUVs to fit the high public demand.

Sales of new Ford SUVs including the popular Escape, Edge, Explorer, Flex and Expedition are off the their best sales start in Ford company history, during the first five months of 2016. Ford SUVs sales total 325,475 through May of this year, a nine percent increase over sales volume last year.

“Strong customer demand for our SUVs means we will operate some of our North American plants during the traditional two-week summer shutdown,” said Gary Johnson, Ford vice president, North American Manufacturing. “Our SUV assembly plants will continue to build vehicles to make sure we have enough of our popular SUVs to meet customer demand.”

Ford employees in the Louisville, Chicago and Oakville, Ontario SUV plants will still be able enjoy a one week vacation during plant closures the week of July 4. However the traditional two-week summer vacation may be coming to an end as customer demand of popular Ford models continues to increase.

Ford’s Kentucky Truck plant will also have a shortened summer shutdown as production of the all-new Super Duty truck begins. This new Ford truck model is expected to launch later this year.
